Blood Bikes | North West Honda

It’s that time of year where we send a new, fully-liveried motorcycle on its way to help the North West Blood Bikes on their mission.

The operation began in 2012, founded by Paul Brooks, and has saved local NHS hospitals millions of pounds on taxi fares. With over four hundred volunteers, on the roads and taking calls, the team have completed almost 145,000 jobs so far - 1,304 runs were made last month alone.

But what exactly do they do? The North West Blood Bikes have a team of volunteers taking calls from NHS hospitals, clinics and other establishments who urgently need emergency supplies such as blood and medication. Their volunteer riders are then dispatched to fetch these items and safely deliver them where they are needed.

Of course, this is a voluntary, non-profit charity, meaning they solely depend on sponsors and donations to keep them up and running. That’s why we’ve been donating the use of a brand-new, fully-maintained motorcycle every year since 2016, at no cost to the charity. Here at North West Honda Super Centre, we know the importance of this service in not only helping patients, but taking pressure off of the extremely busy NHS hospitals in the Fylde area.

This week, our Sales Manager Simon Carter proudly handed over a new Honda NT1100 to David Clayton and the team. Blood Bikers aplenty gathered to take a look at the new bike, one commenting on the practicality of the height, especially for their newer, less advanced riders. We were then pleasantly surprised to receive a certificate of appreciation for our help over the years, as we waved off the newest Honda in the fleet.
